At the Hobbiton Movie Set in Mata Mata. Auckland, New Zealand.

So who’s watched The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings? Not me, don’t judge. Never been a fan of those little creature like things.. they just don’t bless me. Lol! I’ve seen bits of both movies though, while visiting friends and also on tv commercials if that counts. By the excitement i exhibited on my way to the movie set, one would have thought i had watched the flicks around fifteen times each. It would have certainly made more sense if i could relate the characters to the site but, oh well! The thrill of being at the place both films were made was enough for me to enjoy the day.

The weather in Auckland right now is soo bleeer! In fact as i booked the tour, the guide confessed that at the back of his mind he wondered who in their right mind would want to go out and about in the cold and rain. I had checked the weather updates myself and knew what i was in for but my stubborn optimistic mind convinced my being of the possibility of sunny spells here and there. Sure enough, amidst the pouring rain, the sun came out.

I woke up to a beautiful sunny day, veeery very cold though. Two hours from the city through some expected thunderstorms i was in Mata Mata. Lush green fields and healthy looking friesian cows were all i could see as we drove through the country. Lush being an understatement, my goodness! It is jaw dropping beautiful out there.

Excitement kicked in a notch higher as we approached the set. I could live there if i could, for real. Being about 5’3/ 5’4 inches in height, l learnt that i could perfectly fit into the hobbit houses and live ever so comfortably. I would just need to shrink down a few members of my family so we could all live there happily ever after.. o what fantasies! The Hobbiton is the cutest, most cosy little community i have ever seen. Need i mention how picturesque it is?!

  • yes please..

  • i instantly fell in love with everything

  • how dainty!

  • hippity-hop..

  • from door to door

  • so many places i could easily call home

  • all was going well until... ! for about 10 minutes it rained

  • but when it stopped, the minor challenges didn't seem like a thing with all the beauty around

  • i wouldn't have guessed that was a fake tree. doesn't seem like it, in'it! though every other surrounding tree is real

  • so apparently this is where Frodo and Bilbo lived in The Hobbit

  • oh, i just loved all the details

  • even the little birdies got hobbit size digs. lol!

  • "look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them."

  • wondered off for abit, just couldn't resist

  • paying attention to the guide was getting futile in the midst of such breathtaking scenery

  • got in for a drink

  • couldn't get over how at home the place made me feel

  • also got a bite to eat

  • meanwhile, it rained cats and dogs outside

  • and then again the sun was out

  • it was time to leave, sigh!

  • but not without a little more wandering

  • there at The Hobbiton i left a little part of me.
