Hi from Shanghai. At the Oriental Pearl, China.

So, one of the main things people do in China is….. yeah! you guessed right.. shop. Having got that out of my system during my first few visits, it was time to explore further cause surely there always has to be more to a place than just the cliche.

The Oriental pearl was such a good discovery. I didn’t know what to expect going in as i hadn’t heard much about it or the activities people do in it, i have to say i was pleasantly surprised. I got to see an aerial view of Shanghai and what she is about. Visibility in the city was not so good on the day but i made the best of things as they were. Got to learn a lot about the Chinese history and culture from the museum on the pedestal.. it is so well done that there was not a minute i got bored. You know how museums get sometimes ya!!

My favorite memory of being there was walking around the second highest sphere, it has see-through glass floors. I still get goosebumps thinking about how i felt when i took my first step and looked down.. hand on chest it felt like my heart had just left me! I had to step back near the door just to make sure i was still alive. Haha, what fun. I certainly had a good ‘innocent’ hearty laugh at a few people around who just could not do it, batophobia is real.

  • the Oriental Pearl

  • skyscrapers filled the scene around

  • i had just got my ticket and it was time to go in

  • beautiful oriental pieces that...

  • i spotted at these cool arty stands by the entrance. stopped to check out souvenirs

  • then went in.

there's such deep history between the Chinese and dragons, very interesting

  • at the first sphere and we were so high up already. to think there were two more spheres to explore, i was excited

  • the skyscrapers i had seen on ground were not so tall anymore

  • walked around for a bit

  • caught a glimpse of the Huangpu river, the largest in Shanghai

  • at the space capsule. started from the bottom and in a matter of minutes we were at 351m above ground. whoa! the view was great, i can only imagine that on a clear day

  • we were in space.. i guess. ha!

  • one level back down and aaaaaaa... that was intimidating

  • got a hold of myself after a few

  • and even managed to have some fun #falling #illusion i'm sure i wouldn't be laughing if i was falling for real

  • went back aaaall the way down and got into the museum

  • to start was a show case of fancy cars used in China eons ago

  • the automobile evolution is fascinating huh!

  • there were so many amazing, detailed and intricate pieces on display. spent hours in there

  • shared a quick laugh with the laughing buddhas on my way out

  • and managed to get a cab just before the rain came down

  • che'che' (thank you) Shanghai
