#FBF. Birthday week in Hong Kong Island.

The year is almost coming to an end. As i continue to travel, i sometimes find it a struggle to keep up with my blog and social posts on instagram, life can get real busy i tell ya! But for all the moments i have captured and continue to capture, i am ever so grateful because i easily go back in time flipping through my albums and every memory still feels as good as new.

So this post is like a major FBF /TBT etc. Didn’t think i would blog about it but hey, why not. It’s been so hard to choose what pics to put up considering i have a whole 10GB of photos to choose from just for this trip. You see, most times my visits to places don’t last very long and i usually know exactly what to go on about but i guess this was different for the special reason it was my birthday trip.

Let me take you back to July, when the best babies on earth were born.. ps: I’m being modest, lol. This year my best friend (whose birthday is in June) and i celebrated our birthdays on a seven day trip to Hong Kong. The place is non stop, like literally. I love that about the city. Everyone we interacted with was so friendly that we even left having made a few new friends.

The hardest thing for me though was adjusting my palate to the local cuisine. Don’t get me wrong, im not saying there is anything wrong with it. I just mean it would be equally as hard for a Hong Kongese to adopt to ugali / mboga and have that for their whole stay if they were in my hometown, Kenya. Totally good food but different palates, you dig!

I have to mention, the buildings in Hong Kong are life changing huge. I’m not even adding salt here. I can’t help but wonder if the Tower of Babel had anything on them. You know how tiny ants seem from our everyday life, i couldn’t help but see myself just as small as i walked through the twists and turns of the streets. The sky scrappers really do give character to the city.

On the last day of our holiday, we decided it wasn’t worth wasting the day lazing around when there was still so much to explore. We woke up late but quickly looked up what more we could do as we had already put a tick on everything we wanted to see. Our local friends recommended Ocean Park and that’s how we ended our lovely birthday trip.

  • what a welcoming entrance

  • i was pleasantly surprised when we finally got in

  • into the first aquarium

  • we saw all sorts and sundry

  • seeing sea horses in cartoons while younger i thought they were huge but alas!

  • strolling around the park was just lovely

  • caught a glimpse of what was to come. little did we know how extensive the park is

  • but first, into the zoo we went

  • my first encounter with a real panda

  • loved it

  • fascinating creatures

  • more aquariums. if my best friend and i were little fishies, we would be the above lol!

  • got to the cable cars. we were super excited for part two of the park

  • they were such a beautiful display

  • after about fifteen minutes we got to the other side. it was full of roller coasters and slides

  • hairs were raised indeed, my word!

  • the first ride was polite. a little splish a little splash

  • that was lovely too

  • what more can i say.. !!! that was one of the scariest rides i have ever intentionally put my life through. it didn't just take us up-side down once.. but it was crazy fun

  • walked around for a bit to cool off from all the adrenaline

  • then went back at it again

  • lights came on at sunset and the park was closed for the day. it was a day extremely well spent. #loveditinHK
