At the Statue of Liberty, Liberty Island. Manhattan.

I remember waking up and feeling like a bus had run all over me through the night.. jet lag is for amateurs i always say but this time it had got the best of me. I had promised myself irrespective of how i woke up feeling i would not resolve to the usual stroll and day out shopping in the big city.. a tour to Liberty Island to see the Statue of Liberty was a must. I had seen enough of it on TV and finally things were about to get real.

It took thirty minutes to figure out which station to catch the train from, thirty minutes on the subway ride and another thirty minutes cruise ship ride to get there, by my zeal you would have thought i was out to win some sort of prize.

Having watched many big screen films where the Statue of Liberty was highly glorified, i felt like i had made it just by standing next to it. Pardon my excitement here but i was thrilled.. i felt like i had achieved. Know what i mean!!

As i was standing in queue to get my ticket for the cruise ship, i got to learn that the statue was a gift to the United States from the people of France in the 1880s. Yea, you can bet i did some reading later on that evening. Spent a few hours on the island strolling around, it was a great sight to see.

  • and even had a liberating moment

  • stood by the dock for a while to take in the scene

  • then went about wandering

  • nice huh!
